I still have my copy from when I first read it in fourth grade.....the same year I decided to be a writer. The year I began delving into Holocaust history and ultimately the inspiration for the things I've written over the years. I have so much to thank her for.

Laura comments on The Luck of the Irish

What wonderful childhood memories! Scarlett O'Hara from "Gone With The Wind" by Margaret Mitchell. She is such a strong selfish character, I'd love to sit down with her and let her boss me around.

2. Emma from "Can You Keep a Secret?" by Sophie Kinsella. I loved her character!!! She was so real and funny.

3. Any of the Walsh Sisters from Marian Keyes books. They are Irish, funny, and could be some of the best characters I've ever read. I love that I can picture them, and see that they are who they are.

4. Cannie from "Good In Bed" by Jennifer Weiner. Since this is my favorite book this is no surprise. Since I have struggled with my weight- the way in which she embraced her body and her life was inspiring and I think if she existed we'd be friends.

5. Celia Foote from "The Help" I just loved her character...that's all.

6. Leah from "The Red Tent" by Anita Diamant. Another brilliantly written character in this Biblical Fiction...she was beautifully written and I'd love to find out more about her.

7. Ramona's Mom from the "Ramona" Books by Beverly Cleary. Since I'm raising my own Ramona, I'd hope she'd give me a pep talk.
